A race against the clock. Sometimes, a race against the mud.
Everybody can RallyCross! Events are normally run on a grass field, and are open to the public. Any street legal vehicle in safe condition can run. (See rulebook and supplementary regulations for full details). There are different classes based on vehicle to level the field. (get it?)
Individual drivers start the course at intervals, and are timed as they go around/between the cones. Time penalties are added for going the wrong way or knocking cones over. Drivers make multiple runs, and the shortest total time wins.
The classes and all the rules we run our events by are found in the SCCA rule book, you can get that here: SCCA RallyCross Rulebook 2013 (http://www.scca.com/assets/2013 RallyCross Rules.pdf). You can also read our Supplemental Regulations.
Here’s some more details -

You take your car to the tech inspection first, then go to registration. We explain the basics of how our events work at the drivers’ meeting after registration, so don’t miss that. Feel free to walk the course before the drivers’ meeting. There is one parade lap before competition.
Tech inspection – We inspect every vehicle before competition to make sure it will be safe – for instance, that the vehicle has seat belts, the battery is secure and the wheels don’t feel like they’re gonna fall off. Please don’t have a bunch of extra junk rolling around in your vehicle, and if you are bringing your own helmet have it handy. Lifted vehicles probably won’t work, and vehicles have to have a roof and doors and windows (or window nets).
Registration – You must have a valid driver’s license, sign a waiver and pay the entry fee ($35) if you want to compete (it’s free to come watch, but you still have to sign the waiver). You have to have an SCCA membership, and you can get a weekend membership at the event. You have to wear a helmet, and we have loaners in case you don’t have one.
We have a work-run format, so half the session you will be competing, and the other half you will be working the course, so come prepared to hang out for the whole session - bring water, snacks, rain jacket, boots, sunscreen, etc; anything you may need.

Sorry for the late notice, but due to a number of folks being out of town, sick, or engaged in another ORG activity tomorrow night, we’ve decided to cancel this month’s meeting at Buster’s.
That said, the ORG was asked by OMSI to participate in this month’s ‘OMSI After Dark’ event the same Wednesday (3/27) as the meeting. This month features the MythBusters exhibit. Part of the exhibit features a game testing the myth “Can you drive blindfolded with someone else giving you directions?” and they wanted to see if rally driver/co-driver pairs would fare better than the average person. We also will have a table set up to promote the ORG and our associated events, explain the different forms of rally, what it takes to be a rally driver, etc.
Dylan Hooker – ORG President
See OMSI after dark event page for more info on the event.
